100% handmade in Tahiti, The Bamboo series is a Va’a World’s favorite for all long distance races. Developed in close collaboration with the EDT Va’a Team and particularly his captain, Steeve Teihotahaa, this paddle has won it all: Molokai Hoe, Hawaiki Nui, Te Aito, Super Aito, Molokai Solo and many others!
Built with a bamboo shaft and a carbon fiber blade. Light, strong & very well balanced, it is the best ratio power/flexibility. Available in 9 degree square blade for more power upon water entry, ideal for V6 paddling and training sessions. Also available in 10 degree round blade, which offers more subtle water entry when a greater range of paces is needed. Ideal for V1 long distance.

Blade Shape, Size, and Angle
Blade Shape: Viper offers 2 shapes, Round and Square. The Square blade moves the widest part of the blade to the very bottom of the paddle creating a feeling of a solid catch, grabbing the most water further away from the bottom hand. The round blade move the widest part of the blade slightly up, closer to your hand giving you still a feeling of a solid catch but with a little more control.
Blade Angle: The angle of your paddle changes as you move through the stroke due to your body mechanics. The first part of the stroke lifts the canoe up, the middle pushes the canoe forward and the end of the stroke pulls the canoe back down (theoretically). The Square Blades come in a 9° angle giving you more power up front but less benefit at the exit. The Round Blade with a 10° allows more value in a longer stroke but sacrifices power up front because you’re lifting the canoe for a slightly longer duration through the stroke. In all honesty – you have to be an amazing paddler to tell the difference. The shape and size are easier to notice than the blade angle.
Blade Size: Viper offers 5 blade sizes. The size blade you want depends on your body weight, strength, and conditioning. If you are looking for a blade for a 6 man also think what other people in your canoe are using – if all the paddles are matching it’s easier to match up the blend. The rule of thumb is, the heavier you are or the stronger you are the lager of a blade you want to support your weight/strength. For more info on blade size check out How to Choose the Right Outrigger Blade Size.
The size of the paddle is the overall length of the blade measured from the very bottom of the blade to the top of the t grip. To get a general idea of what size you need click on the Size Guide link at the top of the page. For a blade being used in a traditional OC6 order near the upper end. If you are purchasing a paddle for an OC1, OC2, or an unlimited then order near the lower end. This is a general guideline.
